Norman T. Dahm, Jr. is a National Board Certified Teacher in AYA Science. He has 28 years of teaching Biology, Honors Biology and Advanced Placement Biology. He currently holds graduate degrees in Molecular Biology and School Administration. He is a Woodrow Wilson Fellow -Princeton University.
Mr. Dahm is a Lead State Reviewer (Illinois) and a member of the State Adoption Committee for the Next Generation Science Standards. He is the Chairperson for the Science Assessment Advisory Committee for the Illinois State Board of Education. Mr. Dahm is a member of the leadership team for Building Capacity for State Science Educators in Illinois. He has extensive experience working with Dr. Norman Webb using his Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Model as an external reviewer, conducting state alignment studies. Mr. Dahm is an item writer for ACT and Illinois Science Test. Mr. Dahm is a Virtual Cohort Facilitator for National Boards of Professional Teaching Standards.
Mr. Dahm has served on the National Association of Biology Teachers National Committee. He conducts Administrator and Teacher Workshops and Webinars on Science Curriculum Alignment and Development, Use of Technology (MOODLE) and Teach Reading in a Science Class and the Nature of Science for the Illinois Principal’s Association. His most recent work is assisting with the development of curriculum materials to be disseminated by the University Of Rochester NY Science Outreach Program.
Mr. Dahm received his Bachelor of Science in both Chemistry and Biology from Missouri State University where he was a Division I wrestler and four time national qualifier. He completed his graduate studies at University of Wisconsin-Madison, Southern Illinois University, and Princeton University. Mr. Dahm’s passion for science education has earned him to be named a finalist twice for the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for the state of Illinois. He is currently a nominee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
Mr. Dahm lives with his wife and four children in Swansea, Illinois.
